Apolis: Advocacy Through Industry

Good evening guys, I hope you are all having a good start to the week.

Tonight, I wanted to share with you the American brand Apolis that is based in Los Angeles, California in the U.S.A. I can’t begin to tell you all the amazing work this brand does to encourage a social change in aiming to improve the lives of those that live in third world countries as well as improving environmental standards … also, I can’t fail to mention the brands great range and quality of products. I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to promote the brand, particularly due to the efforts of Apolis making a difference in the diverse world that we live in.

Two brothers named Raan and Shea Parton (you can see above) founded the Apolis brand in 2004 when they had been influenced from their travels that involved a lot of ups and downs, this gave them inspiration to create a simple business idea that could create social change and help build bridges to economic development. Both brothers have a commitment to global advocacy. They have partnered with manufacturers in Uganda, Banglandesh, Peru and even nearby the main base of Apolis in Los Angeles to name a few. The brands business model of ‘Advocacy Through Industry’ aims to encourage individuals to determine their own future.

Apolis are a Certified B corporation and what this means is that they have went above and beyond the standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

The brand sells lots of different  T-shirts, shirts, jackets, blazers, trousers, swimwear and many kinds of accessories that can even be personalised! What’s not to love?

I was gifted this personalised market tote bag that is a godsend for all of the stuff I carry around with me on a daily basis as well as doing a food shop of course. I have to admit, I am not the best at being environmentally friendly but this is a step in the right direction for avoiding the use of plastic bags.

After looking into how the bags are produced and the projects behind the manufacturing process really amazed me. I found a Youtube video that showed ‘The Bangladesh Project’ that involved woman manufacturing market bags like my personalised one that I have shown you all above. The project has helped support local orphanages within the Northern area of Bangladesh by providing school supplies and uniforms as well as facilitating literacy programmes for families within the community, this emphasises how the brand is creating such a difference for individuals in areas around less developed countries as well as giving woman more skills and an income to live on. You can have a look at the video here, I would definitely encourage you all to check it out as it really is inspiring.

The finest quality of materials is used to manufacture the products allowing them to last for a long duration without wear and tear, they are also very fashionable as well in my opinion. You can have a look at the website via the link below to see some of the products that Apolis sell.

Valentino Rock Stud Trainers

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had the most amazing Christmas spent with loved ones and that you don’t feel too guilty for over indulging on pigs in blankets …

Today’s post is about my new Valentino Garavani Rockstud Noir trainers I have invested in. I have never been someone who has purchased designer item/s, mainly because I simply can’t afford anything due to being a student/having a part time job. I am also the most clumsiest and forgetful person you will ever meet so the thought of loosing/damaging a designer piece that I paid a lot of money for completely freaks me out.

I have been obsessed with Valentino Rock Stud heels and trainers for AGES, from working in Flannels that sells designer item/s, it was only a matter of time before I would purchase one of the two. After deciding to go for the black pair featuring rock stud details, I was so excited to wear them, especially since the last pair were in my size. (It was meant to be!!)

My trainers have yet to be worn and I can’t wait to show you all what I decide to style them with.

If you want to look at the other colours/styles of Valentino flats, you can do so via the link below.

Kartel: Watches With a Story To Tell

GUYS I AM BACK!!!

I know it has been months and months since I last wrote up a blog post, life has been busy from moving house, starting new job/s and starting my Fashion Branding course at university (which is amazing) Now I’m back and I want to dedicate a few hours each week into making my blog bigger and better as I have missed it ALOT.

I wanted to talk about the independent Scottish watch brand Kartel in my post this evening as I have collaborated with the brand previously and they have came so far in such a short space of time.

The brand consists of  timeless and classic watches that all relate to Scottish heritage, which I obviously love, being Scottish and all …. Each of the watches have a Scottish name such as ‘Sinclair’ or ‘Kendrick’ which I thought was quite interesting as it show’s how all of the inspiration has been taken from the creator/s background which relates to the brand as a whole, essentially meaning there is a story behind each of the watches.

As my colour palette tends to consist of black, white, grey, nude (anything with a neutral palette basically) I decided to go for the classic ‘Lewis’ watch that features a white face and black leather strap.

I don’t think I could find a more suited watch for myself!

What I love about Kartel watches is that they are gender neutral and affordable. Can you believe that this watch is only £69!?

You can also receive engraving services on the watches which is great for a personalised touch.

A Kartel watch would make the perfect gift for any occasion and you also have the option to build you own watch with a selected face and strap. AMAZING, right?

The idea is that you choose what style of watch you like, the dial colour and strap off your choice from the ‘Watch Builder’ option you can find via this link.

There are so many different watch styles that you can choose that can be personal to your own style.

If you are still doing your Christmas shopping like me …. then definitely consider a Kartel gift this Christmas. It will not disappoint.

Casual T and Blazer

Hey,

So recently I’ve been keeping my eye out for staple pieces for the A/W seasons approaching.

With the sales being on, I was browsing on Topshops clearance and came across a black loose fitted blazer that was exactly what I was looking for… even better it was reduced from £49 to just £10!

I love the gold button details and how you can wear it as a top as it wraps over when it fastens. It also features slits in the sleeve which is a great style detail, perfect if you like accessorising with bracelets and watches that you want to be visible.

There’s still sizes 8,10 and 12 in store so be sure to grab yours quickly. I’ll attach a link below.

I also fell in love with the Milan T shirt by the brand Tee and Cake in Topshop, it’s so simple yet chic and perfect for dressing up or down. It is definitely a great staple piece, especially for £18.

You can find the link to both items below!

Swatch: The Perfect Gift For Any Occasion

Good Morning,

I hope you are all well and are ready for the Christmas holidays! I am so excited! Although, I still have so much shopping and gift wrapping to do. I’m usually prepared well in advance but this year has been the total opposite. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Last month, I was approached by Swatch Switzerland to attend their new store opening event on Buchanan Street in Glasgow where I could get to learn more about the brand and choose a piece of my own, which was so exciting! When I seen the new store it looked great and it is positioned on one of the busiest places to shop in Glasgow. The store space is so open with great branding of all the different watch styles and collections they have in store. The atmosphere is so upbeat and is very inviting. The staff are so helpful and interested in the products they are selling which is always a bonus too.

The brand itself originated in Switzerland and was founded in 1983 by Nicolas Hayek. Before, I didn’t know much about the brand and now I realise that it has so much to offer with watch styles to fit everyone’s tastes as well as their products being unisex. The watches are so quirky and each has a unique story behind them, which is what makes Swatch stand out to other related brands. So much goes into the thought process of designing and creating the different watch styles that come from an initial design concept and trend, I love it.

What I didn’t realise is, that Swatch also offer sunglasses and jewelry in store too. I personally loved the sunglasses that were on offer as they matched some of the watch styles in store from the certain trends that are popular in store. As well as this you can pop out and change the lenses depending on the style and purpose they are being used for. Check these out …

You can find the link to the sunglasses below.

Whilst on the visit I was completely spoiled for choice. As I was shown round, I was told about all the concepts behind some of the watch trends, which I was amazed by. From looking at it you don’t see all the art and creative background it develops from until it’s pointed out to you.

One of the trends I was obsessed over was called ‘Look Fab’ which is a glitzy, sleek and sophisticated range of watch styles.  It is based on ‘Sun-brushed dials and glittery gold, silver, fuchsia, and ink blue styles create a collection of Swiss watches that reminds us to cherish life’s treasures.’

If you want to have a look at other trends you can have a look via this link: https://www.swatch.com/en/press/FallWinter2016/

After ages of deciding, I decided to choose the SISTEM STALAC watch that has a silver bracelet and face with Swarovski crystals embedded on the outer face. It fastens by a clasp and is non-battery powered and instead is powered by the movement of your wrist with new mechanical technology. The good thing about my new watch is that if you decide not to wear it for four days the watch will still be ticking at the appropriate time but is easy to wind up if you don’t wear it for longer than four days. (trust me if I can operate it, anyone can I am a complete technophobe!)

A video based on the mechanics of the watch can be seen via the link below:

This watch is definitely one of my favourites. I love the detailing and the bracelet makes it look really elegant contrasting with the large face.

You can shop my watch here at: http://shop.swatch.com/en_gb/collections/sistem51-irony-c111.html

I definitely recommend Swatch, especially if you are a fashion lover. The products they offer make the perfect gift so if you are like me and are still doing your Christmas shopping I would consider taking a look in a Swatch store near you or on their website that I will post a link to below.

http://shop.swatch.com/en_gb/

Currently Swatch are giving advice on what to gift a loved on by answering a few questions based on their gender and style to make it all the more easier for you.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!
